Are gas fireplaces efficient?

Gas fireplace efficiency depends on the type, but room-sealed, Direct Vent gas fireplaces like Escea’s are the most efficient.

Direct Vent fireplaces draw fresh air for combustion from outside the home and expel all exhaust air back outdoors through a dual-flue system. The warm indoor air remains completely separate from the combustion process, which means no wasted heat and a warmer, healthier home.

Yes, Escea gas fireplaces are available and designed for both LPG and Natural Gas. When purchasing, your retailer will ensure you receive the correct configuration for your home.

Are gas fireplaces hot to touch?

The glass window on a gas fireplace can get hot to touch while the fire is operating, which is completely normal.

On some gas models, Escea offers an optional mesh safety screen. This creates a protective barrier in front of the glass to help safeguard little hands and paws, while still allowing a clear view of the flames.

How much area will a gas fireplace heat?

As a general guide, 1kW of heat output will warm approximately 10m² of floor area. To estimate what you need, calculate the floor area of your room (length × width), then divide the total floor area by 10. This will give you a minimum heat output requirement in kW.

This guide assumes standard 2.4m ceilings, double glazing, and good insulation. There are many other variables that can affect heating performance, including your climate, window coverings, floor coverings, and whether the space is open plan or enclosed.

What are the running costs of a gas fireplace?

Running costs of a gas fireplace vary widely depending on several factors — the type of gas fireplace, how often it's used, the size and output of the model, and your local gas provider rates.

Broadly speaking, the bigger the fire, the more gas it will use, and the more often you run it, the higher your ongoing costs will be. Gas pricing can also vary between providers, and depends on whether you’re on a natural gas or bottled LPG supply. LPG users should also factor in bottle hire and refill costs.
